Bed hair, rosy cheeks, a white tee and blue jeans. The idea I encounter each time I’m thinking of what to wear. Ready to respond to any compliments with an ‘Oh this thing? I just thrown this on without looking in the mirror!’

The strange allure of wanting to look like I haven’t put in an ounce of effort into my appearance pulls me in more than I realize.

My best pal exclaimed the other day ‘You have the most makeup and beauty products for someone that wears F all makeup.’

Touche` seeing I wear mascara once a month and feel like I am going all out.

So why do I want to continuously give off the cool girl I don’t care vibe? It isn’t the mid 20’s Alex Turner ‘n’ Alexa Chung era. It is 2019.

I want to look like I’ve overslept and thrown on my boyfriend’s tee in a few minutes. But the reality is I had 10 hours sleep, took 40 minutes to choose an outfit and I am single. Maybe it stems from my inner laziness, or average organizational skills?

Not putting in an effort actually requires a fair bit of effort so these are my top 5 products to help me on my way:

Marc Jacobs Dew Drops:

This product is golden hour In a bottle. Glowy, dewy and shiny but all in a good way. No sparkles or glitter just luminous skin in all the right places. Apply with foundation for an all over lit from within vibe, or simply to the cheekbones and usual highlight spots. Also this bad boy is formulated from Coconut and pro-vitamin B5, so it is doing your skin good whilst making you look even better! Droolworthy.

Benefit Gimme Brow:

Fuller tinted brows in one swipe? Genius. This product replaces three products that used to exist in my routine being brow powder, a pencil and gel. I apply this backwards and then upwards for a fuller thicker brow. :- )

RMS Lip 2 Cheek: Two products in one = a lazy girls dream. The shade illusive is a dreamy pop of dark pink tones, being universally flattering on all skin tones. I add to my lips, nose, cheeks and eyelids for a flush of colour and instantly achieve the hint of rosy cheeks without the embarrassment or freezing cold.

Nars Liquid Laguna Bronzer:

A hellla of a lot of people say that liquid bronzers and blushes scare them, but I find that the powder formulas are way more harsh once applied to the skin. I really adore being able to build up a bronze look and it fits into my no makeup makeup routine perfectly. I dab a pea sized amount on my ring finger and pat upwards from the bottom of the hollow of my cheeks all the way up to my temples. Also if I get a spray tan or am brown on those three days a year, I add a pump to my tinted moisturiser to match my bronziness.

Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk LipCheat & Liner:

I am that annoying woman that strives to find a lipstick that replicates my actual lip colour. Madness I know. So once I came across this product there was no going back. It is a dreamy texture, not drying or flakey and the colour sticks for hours on end. Apply straight from the bullet and achieve the ultimate sun kissed lips in seconds. Seriously! It is such a loved product that CT released a entire range dedicated to the shade, of course I had to get my paws on the eye palette and gloss. Musk pink is here to stay!

Overlooked benefits:

  • More time to get anything done, maybe go for a walk or take in every second of your glorious AM coffee.

  • Save $$ in the long run because you are not speeding through your beauty products like Usain Bolt. Oh and possibly on clothes for that matter.

  • When you do put more than 20% effort in, you feel like a 15 outta 10. Then it domino effects into your daily head space that with or without putting in an effort you are a dam fine specimen.

So there you have it, my five must haves when I want the effortless off duty makeup look.

Pair with a bike and baguette for maximum French Muse vibes.

Merci!

Maisie
