It's a Monday morning and my blues are cured instantly thanks to Sloan Peterson's feel good breezy garage pop. Seriously though, I just want to be on the road sipping on cherry cola with the rooftop down! Sloan Peterson is the latest musical adventure for artist Joe Jackson, and after a pretty huge year this is what she had to say!
First things first, a massive big up for releasing your debut EP Midnight Love!
The 1950’s feels on your tracks are impossible not to groove to, what would you say is someone or something that influences Sloan Peterson music?
JJ: Everything and anything, I'm inspired by words, pictures, movies, songs, people literally anything will spark an idea for me.
You have performed at a fair few festivals and then done more intimate smaller gigs, what do you prefer and why?
Intimate gigs for sure, you get a proper sound check and its just a lot more relaxed.. I mean festivals are always super fun and great but its always kinda rushed and never really know what the sound on stage is going to sound like.. but at the end of the day doesn’t matter where I play so long im having fun and people enjoy it.
When I saw you featured in Vogue I nearly had a heart attack! What did it mean to you?
Haha that was pretty amazing! I got super blessed when I released 105 just kinda was a great boost for what I am doing now and it was so amazing for people to notice it! I kinda don’t know where to go from here though, started on a high and just tryin to maintain that now ..
So you toured with the wonderful Alex Lahey this October, a fellow Australian female artist! How did you feel when you got the news?
It was amazing we got the tour because her management saw us at big sound and loved it! It was such a fun tour to be involved with and I love Alex and her band we had a similar vibe I think so well suited as well, very excited to keep going on tour that’s for sure.
Which other artists do you admire?
Julia Jacklin, Angel Olsen, Julian Casablancas, Nico, The Lemon Twigs, Starcrawler, Wolf Alice, Metric.
I want you is such a feel good dreamy track, where did the idea from the video clip come from?
Sam Brumby the guy who shot it came up with the concept of an imaginary type boyfriend.. it was kinda hard to portray especially shooting with an 8mm camera we couldn’t see anything we had recorded but it kept it simple and super fun to make!
If you could be interviewing one person right now who would it be?
Dead or Alive? Dead it would be Elvis, alive it would be Julian Casablancas.
Any advice to a young band trying to make it in Australia?
Just keep doing what you love..
You sure have your own trademark style, how has it evolved over the years?
It really hasn’t, haha I still wear so many things I bought when I was 14 and i'm pretty tight with money so I barely buy new things. I don’t really find my self that stylish but I love that i've somehow tricked other people into thinking I am lol.
Well you sure had me fooled..What is one thing that people would be surprised to know about you?
I love being alone A LOT of the time.
One item in your wardrobe that you are obsessing over currently?
Platform converse shoes.
Quick fire:
50’S or 60’s ? 50’s music 60’s style (sorry cheating there hehe)
Paris or New York? Paris cause I still haven’t been
Current playlist? Metric
Last thing you Googled? how to stream keeping up with the kardashians
Winter or summer style? Summer
Thank you very much for having a yarn with me darling! Best of luck with the rest of the years endeavours and you shall see me grooving in your crowd very soon.
