Commencing this week I shall be getting together fornightly with muses in the creative world and picking their brains. This week I had a chat with the honeys from The Common Ground Boutique and discussed everything from building a brand to style icons.

Why did you decide to start The Common Ground Boutique?

We had both spoke about starting something for ourselves 5 years ago when we first got together and we always brainstormed ideas and planned things, we then moved to Sydney and were so inspired being down there. We both had really good jobs but just got to a point where we hated the routine of the Monday-Friday life working for someone else, so at the start of the year we decided to stop talking about it and actually do it. We moved back to the Sunshine Coast and within a month the store was open (we didn't sleep much that month, haha)

What do all your brands stocked at TCGB have in common (besides being ridiculously cool)? And why do you choose the brands?

We try to have some really forward brands in the store all offering different styles but I think what they all have in common is good quality.

Who would you say is the typical TCGB customer?

There definitely isn't a typical customer for us, our age group varies from 14-70 which is amazing! we have such stylish older ladies and men coming in buying all the on trend pieces that the younger generation also likes.

How does your boutique location play into TCGB ?

We always wanted the store to be a destination for people but we were lucky enough to get the perfect space in one of the busiest places on The Sunshine Coast, we are really close to the beach but were not a typical coast life store and I think people really like that.

What has been the trickiest part of starting a company from scratch?

The trickiest part we have found is time managing

What’s the best part?

The best part would have to be working together and having fun, it honestly never feels like work.

What have you learnt from the journey so far?

The biggest lesson we have both learnt is to not take things too personally, some people just might not like the shit you like. Also to always trust your instincts no matter what.
